Sikkim to host 200 participants for S20 today : Among them 3 local start-ups

DICHEN ONGMU, EOI, GANGTOK, MARCH 17, 2023 : Sikkim all set to host about 200 participants for Start-up S20 on Saturday at Chintan Bhawan as apart of ongoing G20 Summit. Three local start-ups, O2 Himalayas Pvt Ltd, Cas Collective LLP and Agunki Industries Pvt Ltd are amongst the 200.
The two-day long S20 is considered historic as it is being held for the first time in the country with an aim to frame the start-up policy for 20 nations across the globe. Delegates from the USA, France, Germany, Indonesia, Netherlands, Bangladesh, Oman, Mexico, Sweden, Canada, Korea, Japan, Italy and Russia are arriving, along with more than100delegates from India. 
Talking to newspersons, Sikkim Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation B.S. Panth said on Friday: “Start-up policy isn’t a new thing in Sikkim. It all started in 2019 with an aim to support the unemployed youths. This has helped them would their livelihood to a great extent. This event will provide them a bigger platform and better exposure where they will get the idea of the happenings across the world and the nation when it comes to start-ups like theirs. ”Chief Secretary of Sikkim V. B. Pathak said all the 200 participants arriving forS20 were already registered with Atal Incubation Centres. Out of them, three participants under AIC-SMUTBI were from Sikkim. 
“Since the existing and known start-ups will be a part of it, so there is no miracle happening. But it is definitely going to witness brainstorming sessions where we will focus on the young crowd, avoiding regular traditional discussions. Small group interactions will be preferred where the participants can exchange their views and ideas,” Pathak said. 
Expressing her happiness, co-founder O2 Himalayas Mandira Chettri said: “It’s a great opportunity for us where we are rooting to meet up international stakeholders. We are excited and pumped up and equally proud to be a part of this historic event. The S20 meeting that will take place in Gangtok on Saturday and Sunday will be the second meeting of the Startup 20Engagement Group, newly formed under theG20 Presidency of India, adds a PIB release.
Delegates from G20 member and invitee countries, representatives from multilateral organizations and stakeholders from the Indian startup ecosystem have been invited to the meeting. The Sikkim meeting will forward the agenda finalized during the inception meeting held in Hyderabad on January 28and 28 this year. In the inception meeting, the objectives, and deliverables of the three task forces --- Foundation and Alliances, Finance, and Inclusion and Sustainability -- were reworked to incorporate suggestions from all the delegates. 
The Foundation and Alliance Taskforce will set up a global knowledge hub for startups that would showcase and share best practices within G20 countries. The taskforce will also create bilateral and multilateral collaborations with governments, policymakers, academic and research institutes, industry associations and international organizations in the area of startups. It will create mechanisms for global access to markets and talent for startups operating in G20 nations and recommend supportive policies for industry and government organizations to work with startups. 
The Finance Taskforce will try to increase the access to capital for Startups by providing financing and investment platforms s to broaden the array of financial instruments available to Startups. It will provide ease of access to capital through non-equity based financial products and allocate a specific sum of money to prioritized sectors. 
The taskforce will also harmonize tax and legal regulations to encourage public investment in startup funding and interact with the foreign investors of G20 nations. 
The Inclusion and Sustainability Taskforce will identify the specific needs of start-ups led by women, PwDs, LGBTQ+,minorities, other groups; and support them through access to market, financial sources, training and government-led support scheme
